A New Era

Well, hello there. How've you been? Doing anything fun lately? I mean, besides visiting this blog with your fingers crossed hoping for a new post? Or, you know, weeping into your coffee when it's the same old stale "I'm not here!" post, and you just think, "But, Pam! I don't care about blankets!!!"

A collective gasp just went up through the quilting community, but you probably don't care about that either. Right now you're wondering if I'm actually going to say something meaningful in this post instead of being all meta and possibly going to slip into talking about myself in the third person.

Pam says it's time to blog!

I think I'm going to start posting here again because I might have meaningful things to say again. I took the break because I felt like a broken record; there's no shortage of mommyblogs who say things more eloquently than me, and it shouldn't come as a surprise that raising kids is hard if:
  1. You've had a kid
  2. Know someone who has a kid
  3. Have been a kid
I starting thinking I should post here again when I walked in on my father looking at this blog on his computer. Yes, I was visiting my parents (helping them out with house "stuff" and cooking while my mom recovered from surgery), and my dad still went to the blog, presumably to read a funny story. Or possibly to see what else I'd tweeted about him recently.  Also while I was visiting, my sister discovered I had made chocolate chip cookies and they were in the kitchen by checking twitter while sitting beside me on the couch. Here's a shortcut: just check the twitter site for a more comprehensive collection of my brilliance in 140 character bites.

So, in short: I am fine! Raising kids is hard. Sometimes I cry about that. Sometimes I've even thrown something (a comb!) in frustration. I am not proud of this. In my defense Bloomer's hair is really curly and she's not exactly a paragon of virtue.

Also, she just started kindergarten today! She will do well with the structure and firm, loving hand guiding her. She struggled with summer camp where there were the sweaty hands of lackadaisical teenagers guiding her. Boxer is playing tackle football this fall and just started second grade. When Bloomer is having an off day, he likes to suck up to us, either to make us feel better or perhaps cast the glittery spotlight of "The Good One" on himself.

The cats are 14, and starting to have health issues. Hopefully things will be turning around for Zoom, who's been struggling with a reaction to medication for hyperthyroidism. Zapper's been diagnosed with hypertension. My cats, they like to be opposites of me!

Brief and I are still happily chugging along - 11 years of marriage, and just over 13 years of being together. He's still an aviation mechanic. He still calls my quilts "blankets", but in a loving fashion. You know, so I won't smash him in the jimmies.

I'm still working full time from home. With both kids catching the bus to school at 7am, I have an hour of free time before I have to start work. I'm hoping to use that time to workout and shed some of the weight that has crept on since becoming a mom. I might talk about that process here.

I hope you all are doing well, and might still hang around a bit more to see what new and exciting things I have to say. Because I'm gonna be a room mom for Kindergarten this year, and you know that's going to turn out AWESOME.

Good for you on updating the blog. I am working on splitting mine in two myself.

Considering I didn't even know this blog existed, I'm thrilled that you are writing here again. I love the personal ramblings of my friends. Even when they seem boring to you, they really aren't to us.

"...to avoid smashing him in the jimmies." was by far the best line of this post!

Who knew? I am glad to know I am not the only one with a non-quilt (also non-mommy) related neglected blog.

Welcome back. You will give my sister and I blog fodder to discuss again. Ha!

So glad you're back! You were lingering down in the depths of my bloglist updates with people who update never. Of which I have now become as well.

Life gets in the way of blogging about life sometimes.

I'm guess Bloomer will ace Kindergarten. More to do in a more structured environment. I think girls thrive on this.

Boxer will also excel at tackle football. He comes from solid (read stocky) stock (stocky stock sounds weird and now I've made you read it back to back) on his father's side. He'll be hard to take down. I don't know if you know this, but there is something of a stubborn gene in the pool as well. If this comes as a surprise, I'm sorry for spoiling it for you!
